Proud To Be An AGD

“To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied” – perhaps the most valuable line within the Alpha Gamma Delta purpose and a way of life for the members of Alpha Gamma Delta at Westminster College.
As a member of Alpha Gamma Delta at Westminster College, I can’t seem to figure out why my Greek organization is perceived negatively by other Greek organizations. Hearing the words “no matter the letters, we are all Greek together” and knowing that my organization is not treated with the fairness and equality that we deserve truly hurts. From an outsider’s perspective, maybe it’s hard to understand what we go through during Greek week, a week that is meant for enjoyment. A week where Alpha Gamma Delta is constantly criticized and spoken adversely of because of our what? I speak for my sisters too when I say that I genuinely don’t understand why my organization is continuously put down by others. Why there is so much hatred surrounding women who strive for compassion and friendship. Why we are not supported by the Greek community.

Although I can’t comprehend the negative connotation that goes along with Alpha Gamma Delta, I would like to say that I am PROUD to say that these women truly do live with purpose. I am PROUD to share my letters with women that are incredibly dedicated to philanthropy. I am PROUD to have sisters that can overcome the deceitful backlash against our organization. I am PROUD that 57 women are able to share such a remarkable bond. I am PROUD of how devoted my sisters are to contribute to the world’s work. I am PROUD that we can motivate other organizations to step up and make a difference. I am PROUD that my organization can have endless fun together. I am PROUD to be an Alpha Gamma Delta.

"The only opinions that impact our successes are those of the wonderful women standing next to us."
